Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that his country is ranked European in the European level and seventh in the world in terms of agricultural output globally.
This came during a speech at the conclusion of the third consultative meeting of agriculture and forestry in Turkey, which was held in the capital Ankara.
Erdogan explained that Turkey exports 1.690 of its agricultural products to 195 countries around the world, and that Turkey leads the world in the production of hazelnuts, cherries, apricots and quince.
“We are protecting various types of seeds in Turkey through the Seed Bank project. We have opened the third largest seed bank in the world in the capital Ankara.”
“Ensuring food security for our people has become a national security issue for Turkey, like all countries.”
He said that his country was 20 years ago thinking about where to buy seeds for its farmers, but today, Turkey’s exports of seeds doubled 11 times, with the volume of exports 102 thousand tons of seeds worth $ 152 million.
The Turkish president stressed that the dependence on abroad in the provision of basic agricultural products, no less dangerous than dependence on the defense industry.
